Delvon Ammon of Mitchell, SD passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial with Military Rites will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Delvon was born April 9, 1932 in Lane SD to Henry and Pauline (Garbe) Ammon. He was in the 5th grade when they moved to the Plano area; he graduated from Plano High School in 1950. Delvon farmed in the area until enlisting in the Air Force as an airplane mechanic. On December 23, 1952 he married Jean Ewing at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell; the couple lived in Wichita Falls, TX as well as West Palm Beach, FL. They returned to Hanson County where they farmed. He also worked at Hormels, Mitchell Livestock, the Alexandria and Mitchell Post Office, and was a bookkeeper before retiring.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, American Legion, as well as being a lifetime member of the James Valley Community Center. Delvon enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He was a sports enthusiast, watching the Minnesota Twins as well as local sports; Kernels and DWU Tigers.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Jean, children, Gregory (Jeannie) Ammon, Debra (Brian) Oftedahl, Trudy (Keith) Youngren, ten grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, brothers in-law, Kermit Black, and Glen (Helen) Ewing, and sister in-law, Gladys Ewing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Daniel, grandson, Wyatt Ammon, sister, Delores Black, and brother in-law James L. Ewing SR.
