IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Delores Guindon-
Schoenfelder
July 28, 1926 – December 30, 2017
Delores Katherine Thome, the second child born to Joseph and Frances (Goergen) Thome, was born on July 28, 1926 in Jerauld County in a small house along Highway 281.
Delores, also lovingly known as Sis or Dee, went to live with John and Susan Goergen at age 5. She attended Goergen School while there. When she was older she moved back home with her parents and two siblings, older brother Lloyd and her younger sister. She finished her schooling in Aurora County at the Woodmanste School.
In 1945 Delores, only 18 years of age, moved to the west coast- Camas, Washington. There she worked at the Crown and Zellerbach Paper Mill for 2 years.
Delores married Wayne William Guindon on July 24, 1946 in Vancouver, Washington. The couple moved back to Plankinton on March 1, 1947 traveling home in a Chevy five window pass coupe. They moved home to operate a Service Station, which later became well known as "Guindon Service". Wayne passed in 1972 from a heart attack and Delores continued to run Guindon Service, closing in 1991.
After moving home Delores and Wayne had four children- Candie Sue (1947), Randy (1948), Skip (1950), and Pennie Ann (1953)
Delores married Martin Schoenfelder in March of 2005 at Storm Mountain Center in the Black Hills.
Delores was a two time cancer survivor. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plankinton from April 1, 1958 until her passing on December 30, 2017. She joined the Aurora County VFW Auxillary Post #6554 in 1947, and the Legion Post 18 in 1992 out of Mitchell. Delores was also a member of the Lazy Daisy Extension Club. She enjoyed bowling for many years with her friends and daughters.
Delores enjoyed time with her family; she especially enjoyed her years at the station that was across from the Plankinton Public School. Many children, including all her grandchildren, would frequent the station for an after school snack. She loved all her grandchildren and enjoyed their company. Delores also enjoyed baking and decorating her home for the holidays, she had a large garden in the backyard while owning the station, she enjoyed horse races, and watching a good western show. She loved visiting with friends at coffee and had developed lifelong friendships.
Grateful for sharing in Delores's life are her husband, Martin, son Skip Guindon and wife Betty of Plankinton, daughter Pennie Edinger and husband Evan of Chamberlain, 11 grandchildren- Teresa (James) Bathke, Anita (Allen) Schmidt, Kathy (Jim) Metz, Kevin Bathke, Mike (Pam) Bathke, Jeff (Michelle) Bathke, Lori Jo (Nathan) Crago, Rayne (Jennifer) Guindon, Wendi (Kelly) Schuerman, Jennifer (Ed) Fox, and Jill Grohs, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great great granddaughters, many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
