Delmer "Del" Webb, age 84, of Mitchell, SD died Monday, October 14, 2024 at Sanford USD Medical Center and Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 21, 2024 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial and military rites at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday October 20, 2024 at the Will Funeral Chapel.
Delmer "Del" Rea Webb was born at home in Mitchell, SD, on June 14, 1940 to Lawrence and Frances (Bielfeldt) Webb. He was the youngest of 4 boys.
He was united in marriage with Karen (Holborn) Webb on June 3, 1960. Del worked at a mink farm until joining the United States Army in 1961. He was stationed in California. Along with his other accomplishments in the Army, he was an expert sharpshooter and won many medals. He was honorably discharged from the Army in February 1963. Upon his discharge, he served in the Army National Guard and was discharged in January 1967.
He started his career driving rendering truck shortly after returning to Mitchell from California and drove truck for close to 40 years.
Del coached fastpitch softball for several years. He once took the team to Sioux Falls to play against prison inmates as a way to give them a new experience. He also umpired and was awarded a life-time member ship to the South Dakota Umpire's Hall of Fame.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Volkswagen enthusiast. He also enjoyed photography.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Karen Webb, three children, Bryan (Ann) Webb, Gene Webb, and Lauri (Trevor) Jackson; grandfather to four, Haeli Stadlman, Kyra (Brian) Grable, Carissa (Landon) Jurgens, and Reis (Kyla) Jackson; and great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Gene Webb, his parents and three brothers.
