David Hoffman, age 70 of Mitchell, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 6 at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Will Funeral Chapel.
David was born on September 1, 1939 to Lee and Faye (Rodman) Hoffman in Loomis, SD and was baptized in the Loomis Congregational Church. He grew up in Perry township, living on several farms and attended school at Washington Country School. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1958. He was united in marriage to Delores Anderson on September 3, 1960 in Mitchell, SD. David joined the S.D. National Guard in March 29, 1957 until December, 1994. He received 2 Army Commendation Awards and completed Senior NCO Course with the platoon Sgt. in 1975; the SDNG Military Academy March 2, 1980; and completed several sub-courses on job. He was employed by Simpson Hatchery from October 1960 to December 1982 where he was hatchery and service supervisor from 1971 to 1982. He started at Syncom Technologies on July 19, 1982 as a mechanical tech. until 1993; and was later employed in maintenance at Queen of Peace Hospital from 1994 to 2005.
He is survived by 6 children. Denise Aguire (Antonio), Yankton, SD; Dean Hoffman (Julie), Phoeniz, AZ; Dan Hoffman (Cheryl), Brandon, SD; Deb Bartscher (Donny), Mitchell, SD; Dawn Wolf (Allen), Worthing, SD; Darcy Constant (Dave) Mitchell, SD. 21 Grandchildren, 3 Great-grandchildren. 2 brothers, George Hoffman (Sue), Egan, SD and Dick Hoffman (Sally), La Pointe, WI. 4 sisters: Beverly Thompson (Paul), Mitchell, SD; Bonnie Miller (Charlie), Fort Dodge, IA; Bea Shultz (Randy), Spearfish, SD; Betty Ann Schmitz (Randy), Boone IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Delores, his parents, a brother Jerry Hoffman, and a grandson Matthew Olsen.
