Obituary
Daryl Roetzel, age 71, of Mitchell, SD died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 PM.
Daryl Roetzel, son of Leonard and Margaret (Goergen) Roetzel, was born September 19, 1939 in Worthington, MN. He grew up on the family farm near Worthington and attended country school. Daryl graduated from Worthington High School in 1957. He attended St. Marys College in Winona, MN for three years, graduating from Morningside College in Sioux City, IA.
He was united in marriage with Barbara Honermann on November 4, 1961 in Adrian, MN. The couple made their home in Sioux City, IA. While in Sioux City, Daryl was employed at Windcharger and later at Zenith. In 1979, the couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD, where Daryl was employed at Litton Microwave. They then moved to Mitchell in 1991 and Daryl worked at Syncom and then for ten years as the Business Manager for the Daily Republic. He retired in 2005 at the age of 65.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and served on the Stewardship Board and the Parish Council. He also served on the Beautification Committee. Daryl enjoyed rummage sales, playing cards, gardening, reading, fishing, traveling and a good joke. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Barb, Mitchell, SD; four children, Renee Lopez-Pineda and her husband, Enrique, Eagan, MN, Michelle Armento, Corona, CA, Scott Roetzel and his wife, Lara, Rapid City, SD, Lori Sutton and her husband, Bob, Pierre, SD; ten grandchildren, Beto Lopez-Pineda, Bokil Lopez-Pineda, Nick Armento, Cale Fierro, Berkley Fierro, Bennett Fierro, Walker Roetzel, Everley Roetzel, Madison Sutton and Matthew Sutton; three brothers, Frank Roetzel and his wife, Jeanie, Davenport, FL, Ken Roetzel, Eagan, MN, Ralph Roetzel and his wife, Kathy, Sioux Falls, SD; three sisters, Carole Honermann and her husband, Delbert, Cleveland, MN, Margaret Block and her husband, Arnold, Stewartville, MN , Kathy Strachan and her husband, Richard, Mankato, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Clarice Lenz
