Darwin Eugene Buus, age 84, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Resurrection Lutheran Church with burial and military rites at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Darwin Eugene Buus, son of Henry N. and Tillie (Temple) Buus, was born February 25, 1932 in St. Paul, MN. He attended country school and graduated from Hurley High School. Darwin joined the US Navy on March 14, 1951 and served during the Korean War. Darwin served for two years on the USS Indiana and two years on the USS Essex. He was honorably discharged on March 8, 1955.

He was united in marriage with Eleanore Jelle on November 21, 1952 in Bremerton, WA. When the couple moved to Mitchell, Darwin was employed at the Randall's Bakery from 1958 to 1984. He then was the owner operator of Town House Café and Lounge from 1984 to 1994. In 1994 Darwin became the owner of Crystal Manor and continued to own Crystal Manor until his death.

Darwin enjoyed helping Eleanore feed the birds, NASCAR Racing and the South Dakota Gold Basketball Games. He also enjoyed bowling in his early years and in his later years watching bowling.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell, SD. Darwin was active in R.S.V.P. Patrol in Mitchell for 16 years, the Senior Center Board of Directors and the Servicemen Cemetery Board of Directors. Darwin also a member of American Legion, the VFW where he served as Commander from 2009 to 2010, the Korean War Veterans Association where he served as Commander from 2005 to 2007, the DAV and was honored as Veteran of the Year.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanore Buus, Mitchell, SD; three children, Darwin (Lauree) Buus, Rapid City, SD, Crystal Buus, Mitchell, SD, Coral (Marlo) Sievert, Mitchell, SD; three grandchildren, Amanda (Joe) Swenson, Sioux Falls, SD, Jonathon (Tara) Sievert, Mitchell, SD, Nathon (Melanie Suelflow) Sievert, Mitchell, SD; and one great grandchild, Hazel Swenson, Sioux Falls, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
