Darrell Doc Peterson age 77, of Alexandria died Monday, May 4, 2010 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 8, 2010 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Oldham Lutheran Cemetery in Oldham, SD at a later date. Funeral services are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.
Darrell Doc Peterson, son of Carl and Viola (Becker) Peterson, was born June 23, 1932 in Oldham, SD. He attended school in Oldham and graduated from Oldham High School in 1950. After his schooling, Doc began working at the Coop in Oldham, SD and later became the manager.
Doc was united in marriage with Delores Nelson on November 25, 1967 in Oldham, SD. In 1969, the couple moved to Alexandria, SD where Doc was the manager of Farmers Union Oil which later became Cenex. In 1984 he began his employment with 3-M in Mitchell and later retired from Toshiba on December 31, 1995. In his retirement, Doc was employed at the Spencer Quarry.
Doc enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with his family and friends. He was also fond of deer hunting, pheasant hunting and fishing. Doc was a former member of the Moose and the Elks Lodge.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Delores Peterson, Alexandria, SD; three children, Rick (Lisa) Peterson, Watertown, SD, Jim (April) Peterson, Tulsa, OK, Lynette (Kevin) Kingsbury, Letcher, SD; 11 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three brothers, Rollo (Sharon) Peterson, DeSmet, SD, Alden (Faye) Peterson, Aitkin, MN, Dale (Connie) Peterson, Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Harriet (John) Bresee, Sioux Falls, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
