Obituary

Darrell D. Hilton age 85 died May 17, 2016 at his home in Mitchell.  Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Graceland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday May 21, 2016 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Darrell Hilton, son of Vera and Edgar Hilton, was born September 20, 1930 of Mitchell, SD.  Darrell attended Mitchell Public Schools and Dakota Wesleyan University.  He was a corporal in the US Army and received an honorable discharge in 1953.  He was employed by paint and lumber companies in California from 1955 to 1961, after which he moved to Mitchell and was employed by the Keebler Company. He then opened up Hilton's Southside Market for a number of years.  He then was employed by Peavey Lumber, Fullerton's and Mueller Lumber Company.  He enjoyed playing softball and then became an umpire for many years. He also enjoyed painting during his semi-retirement and belonged to various bowling leagues throughout the years.  He was an avid Mitchell Kernel, Dakota Wesleyan, Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan.

He was united in marriage with Lois Brandenburg February 28, 1954.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lois Hilton, Mitchell, SD; six children, Teresa (Jim) Byrnes,  Renner, SD, Mark (Shari) Hilton, Apopka, FL, Michele (Kurt) Kittleson, Scottsdale, AZ, Harry Hilton,  Mitchell, SD, Jerry (Kellie) Hilton, Mitchell, SD, Rick Hilton, Brandon, SD; 11 grandchildren, Laura Ellerbroek and Kellie Else, Josh and Jenna Thomas, Samantha and Spencer Hilton, Marie Minton, Jackson Hilton, Aylah and Emmarie and Harlow Hilton; four great grandchildren, Elijah and Jacob Else, Brighton and Juliana Ellerbroek; a brother, Harry Hilton, Mitchell, SD and sister-in-law Blanche Hilton, Mitchell, SD.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Carol Thomas, parents, two sisters, Donna Hilton and Shirley Jennings, his brother Earl Hilton, granddaughter Jessica Miiller and a brother-in-law, Earle Seaman.

Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Mitchell or Cadwell Park Baseball.
