Obituary

Darlene Mae Mullenix Shultz, 85, of Mitchell, SD passed away at Firesteel Healthcare Center on Saturday, September 7, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, south highway 37 in Mitchell. Darlene Mullenix, daughter of Ray and Goldie (McCulloch) Mullenix, was born on June 12, 1928 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up there and was educated in the Sioux Falls schools. On May 9, 1947 Darlene was united in marriage to Lyle Marshall Shultz in Sioux Falls. They resided for a time on a ranch north of Murdo. Later they moved to Mitchell and to Rapid City and then returned to Mitchell where have continued to reside. Darlene managed the Chief Motel and the Corn Palace Motel for many years until her retirement. She was a loving wife and mother and a dearly loved grandmother. Darlene was baptized as a Jehovah's Witnesses in 1954. She loved learning Bible truths and sharing that knowledge with friends and neighbors. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Marshall of Mitchell; four children, Geri (Roger) Goddard of San Clemente, CA, Rex and (Debra) Shultz of Mitchell, Randy (Bea) Shultz of Omaha, NE, and Rick Shultz of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one sister, Maxine Kjragaard of Sioux Falls, and many other relatives and friends. Darlene was preceded into death by her parents; brothers, Kenneth and Harold; and sisters Phyllis Lambert, Dorothy Stone and Ruby O'Brien.
