Dale Ruml, age 77, of Mitchell, formerly of Letcher, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center of Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday June 24 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at the Butler Cemetery in rural Letcher. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the funeral service at 9:30 AM Dale was the youngest son of Ernest and Stella (Van Overshield) Ruml, was born September 18, 1930 in Mitchell, SD. Dale attended Jacobus School in Butler Township until his family moved to Tacoma, WA. in 1943 and attended Lincoln grade school in Tacoma. His family returned to Letcher in 1946 were he helped his father on the farm. Dale met Hazel Ferber of Mt. Vernon and was married on October 18, 1951. Dale enlisted in the US Army in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict receiving a Purple Heart for combat injuries. After returning from the war, Dale and Hazel purchased a home at Costa Mesa, CA, where he was a truck driver for Masonry Construction. He worked at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA until he moved his family to Boring, OR. where he was employed with a greenhouse and nursery. Dale returned to Mitchell and was employed at Johnson Motorcity in Mitchell as a truck driver until his retirement. He is survived by his sons Roger Ruml of Oregon, Gregory Ruml of Florida; five grandchildren, a sister Marjorie (John) Ball, Costa Mesa, CA, and a brother Francis (Esther) Ruml, Riverside, CA Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon, son Douglas and infant sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to a local cancer society or Firesteel Healthcare Center.
