IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dale
Holm
June 29, 1930 – November 6, 2021
Dale Chris Holm passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2021 at the age of 91. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM with an 11:30 AM prayer service Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Will Funeral Chapel. A private family burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
Dale was born on June 29, 1930, to Chris F. Holm and Olive Myrand Holm in Viborg, South Dakota, and grew up on the family farm near Irene, South Dakota. He graduated from Irene High School in 1948, and studied engineering at Chicago City College in Chicago, Illinois, before proudly serving in the US Army as a cryptographer during the Korean War, a service that took him to Germany and France. After his military service he married Marla Jean Mann on August 30, 1957, and continued a career in banking and financial services that spanned nearly 60 years in Irene, Sioux Falls, and Mitchell, South Dakota. He was instrumental in opening the A.G. Edwards office in Mitchell.
Dale was a lifetime member of the American Legion and enjoyed volunteering within his community. He served as a Trustee and led several committees over the years for the Congregational United Church of Christ in Mitchell. He was also a member of the Mitchell United Way Committee and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
His love of the outdoors was present throughout his life, whether hunting, exploring, and working on the farm during his youth, traveling on mountain vacations with his family, or enjoying annual hunting trips. Dale was an avid reader and a railroad enthusiast, and also enjoyed the daily challenge of a good crossword puzzle.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents Chris and Olive. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marla; daughter Gail (Thomas) Fox, of Dallas, Texas; many cousins and special friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Avera Hospice/Homecare are suggested. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the caregivers with Avera Hospice, and special friends and caregivers with Home Instead, for their compassionate care during the past year.
