Obituary

Cynthia Kay Folkerts, 78, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at 11:00 Am Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Relatives and friends can meet at the Will Funeral Chapel 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 6, 2023 to be included in the procession to the cemetery.

Cynthia Kay Folkerts was born September 10th, 1945 to Clifford and Evelyn (Tobin) Wendelboe. She grew up near Alexandria, SD with her siblings Terry and Sharon where they enjoyed riding horses and tractors by the river.

After graduating from the Hanson School District, Cynthia worked at a bank in Alexandria and Sioux Falls. While living in Sioux Falls, she enjoyed following her passion for the arts and would paint, draw, and play her guitar in her apartment in the historic district of Sioux Falls.

Cynthia married Paul Edward Folkerts in November 1968. To begin their married life, they moved to their farm south of Mitchell. Eventually, Cynthia went on to work at the ASCS office in Mitchell, SD where she was a program assistant until her retirement in 2011. She also assisted her husband with their realty and auctioneering company during that time.

While her children and grandchildren were growing up, she enjoyed attending and becoming involved in their many activities. Specifically, the Mitchell Soccer Association, Mitchell Friend De Coup, and Mitchell Marching Band. She enjoyed following these activities up to the eventual time of her passing.

She is survived by her 4 children, Becky Folkerts of Sioux Falls, Jenny Falor and husband Jim of Mitchell, Lori Folkerts of Sioux Falls, and Jeff Folkerts and wife Beth of Mitchell, her 4 grandchildren Clay Folkerts of Mitchell, Payne Falor of Mitchell, Ledger Folkerts of Mitchell and Conor Folkerts of Mitchell, her Sister Sharon Vosika of Winner, and many other extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Folkerts, her brother Terry and wife Lila Wendelboe of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Lyle Vosika of Winner, sister-in-law Betty Folkerts of Mitchell, and parents and grandparents.
