Obituary

Curtis Harms, age 65, of Mitchell, died May 29, 2006 at his residence in Mitchell under the care of Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 1, at the Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Curtis John Harms was born February 24, 1941, on the family farm at rural Melvin, Iowa to John O. and Leola (Schultz) Harms. He graduated from Melvin High School and attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis, MN. He was employed at Graves Bridge Construction. Curtis married Mary Heimsoth on June 29, 1963, at May City, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in Ocheydan, Iowa where he was employed at the Ocheyedan Co-op Elevator. They moved to Mitchell in 1974 and he was employed at Jordan Milwork in Sioux Falls. He became employed at UBC in Mitchell in 1981 where he worked until 1996 when he started working at Martin and Associates. He was currently working at Vantage Point Solutions. He was a member of the Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mitchell where he held several offices. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Dept while living in Ocheyedan, Iowa and was a member of the Mitchell Barbershop Quartet. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and loved Nascar Racing. He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Mitchell; two sons, Kevin Harms and wife, Lisa, Brookings, SD and Tony Harms and wife, Heidi, Irving, Texas; his mother, Leola Harms of May City, Iowa; brother, Douglas Harms and wife, Sharen, Larchwood, Iowa; a sister, Barbara Christensen and husband, Dean, Alta, Iowa; six grandchildren: Courtney Harms, Spirit Lake, IA, Taylor, and Jackson Curtis Harms, Irving, TX; and Brock, Brittany and Brett Gauer, Brookings, SD and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and brother-in-law, Dennis Alsets.
