Colleen E. Jacobs

Colleen Evonne Jacobs, age 76, of Mitchell, SD died Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 30, 2026 at Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Thursday, July 30, 2026 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Colleen Evonne Jacobs, daughter of Norman and Eleanor (Green) Phinney, was born February 14, 1950 in Mitchell, SD. She grew up on several farms in the Mitchell area. Colleen attended country school and later graduated from Hanson High School in 1968. After her schooling, she moved to Chicago for 18 months, returning to South Dakota in October of 1969.

Colleen was employed at Palace Cleaners for several years. She was united in marriage with Charles Louis Jacobs in November of 1976 in Mitchell, SD. The couple lived in Mitchell for a short time before making their home in Madison, SD. Later Colleen lived in the Fulton, SD area before moving back to Mitchell. In Mitchell, she was employed at Syncom, Home Instead and Firesteel Healthcare Center. Colleen later lived with her special friend Renee Tietz.

She enjoyed crafts, sewing, playing cards, puzzles and games.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Gail Hahne, Mitchell, SD, Ken Jacobs, Mitchell, SD, Christina Burns, Mitchell, SD, Kathy Frost, Mitchell, SD, and Charles Jacobs, Arizona; a special friend, Renee Tietz, Mitchell, SD; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three brothers, Rodney (Sandy) Phinney, Mitchell, SD, Russ Phinney, North Dakota, Brian (Patty) Phinney, Sioux Falls, SD; four sisters, Marilyn Patzlaff, Alexandria, SD, Rose Thune, Virginia, LeAnn (Tom) Heltzel, Arizona, Char (Dave) Vanderlinde, Brandon, SD; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Darla and Nyla; a granddaughter, Brittnay; three nephews, Ryan, Jason and Darwin; and one niece, Carissa.
