Obituary

Clyde Chief Palmer, age 89, of Mitchell, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at Avera Queen Hospital. Memorial services will be held Monday, June 1, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery with military rites.

Clyde was born March 27, 1920 to Clyde and Anna (Walters) Palmer in Ethan, SD. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1938 and joined the South Dakota National Guard. He entered the US Army on October 16, 1940 and was honorably discharged on June 24, 1945. Clyde spent five years in the service, with three years serving in the South Pacific during WWII. While in the South Pacific Clyde served in the following campaigns, New Guinea, Bismarck-Archipelago, Papua and East Indies.

He returned home from the service and was united in marriage with Donna E. Feyereisen on January 18, 1948 in Mitchell. They made their home in Mitchell where Clyde began is career with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years of service.

Clyde was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the VFW and a life member of the Elks.

Grateful for sharing his life are his sister in law Bernice Winter of Gregory, SD; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna on October 4, 2001, his parents, a brother, and a sister.
