Clyde H. Goin, age 86 of Mitchell, died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls after a long illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Clyde H. Goin, son of Clyde and Mabel (Graham) Goin, was born in October 27, 1923 in Dubuque, IA. After he graduated from high school, Clyde enlisted in the US Army on December 12, 1942 and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on January 16, 1946 and attended the University of Miami. Clyde completed his education at the University of Iowa.
He was united in marriage with Mary Frances McGill on June 24, 1952 in Iowa City, IA. Clyde was employed in the newspaper business in Iowa City, IA, Fort Collins, CO and later accepted a job as Circulation Manager of the Daily Republic in Mitchell, SD. Later he owned The Goin Company which catered to tourism.
Clyde was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was also active in Boy Scouts, the Exchange Club, the Barbershop Chorus, the Elks Lodge, the Corn Palace Committee, the American Legion, the South Dakota Bicentennial Commission, the Mitchell Historical Society, JVCC and many other organizations. Clyde will also be remembered as the Official Corn Palace Historian.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 58 years, Mary Goin, Mitchell, SD; six children, Stephanie (Stephen) Gullings, Mitchell, SD, Clyde F. (Kate) Goin, Rosemount, MN, Susan (Don) McKillop, Gillette, WY, Kathleen (Jay) Davis, Sioux Falls, SD, Michael (Tami) Goin, Rapid City, SD, Julie (Scott) Gaulke, Mitchell, SD; 22 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen McGill, Rock Valley, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a great grandson, Zion McKillop, and a brother-in-law, Tom McGill.
