Cleo Olive Studer, 96, of Mitchell, SD died May 27, 2012 at Firesteel Care Center. Funeral service will be at the Will Funeral Chapel at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 31, 2012 with a visitation one hour prior to the services at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at Graceland cemetery in Mitchell, SD. Mary Cleo Olive Long was born to Calvin and Pearl Roberts Long in White Lake, SD on April 2, 1916. She graduated from White Lake High School. She attended Notre Dame Junior College in Mitchell and received her teaching certificate. Cleo taught in a rural school near Mt. Vernon. She rode her horse back and forth two and one half miles to the schoolhouse. Cleo met Ralph Studer in 1936 when he was a farmhand on her father's farm. They were married on June 19, 1937. Although, they lived in Huron, Aberdeen and Redondo Beach, CA, Mitchell was always home. For many years she operated the lunch cart at Hormel's. To their lifelong union was born seven children, Robert, Gary, Douglas, Gloria, Dennis, Craig and Karen. Family was the most important thing to Cleo. She especially loved the babies. In 2011, she welcomed five new great-grandchildren into the Studer family. She loved every minute she spent with her children and grandchildren. Ralph and Cleo celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1987. Her children hosted a 90th birthday party for her in 2008. Cleo was a long-time member of First Methodist Church in Mitchell. Cleo is survived by her children Gary (Connie) Studer Pierre, SD , Gloria (Dennis) Hanssen, Sioux Falls, SD, Dennis (Linda) Studer, Rapid City, SD, Craig (Sandra) Studer, Lillebrun, GA and Karen Fox, Valentine, NE. and her sister-in-law Marie Long. Cleo has 16 grandchildren Patricia (Dean) Lindemann, Scott (Michelle) Studer, Michael Studer, Kimberly (Seth) Hanssen-Venezia, Aaron (Niki) Studer, Jeffrey (Carrie) Hanssen, Angela (Karl) Heggland, Katie (Jeffery) Heavlin, Luke (Elizabeth) Studer, Caleb Fox, Joel Studer, Marcus Fox, Abbey Studer, Judd Fox and Jennifer (Jim) Wartman. She has 19 great-grandchildren Justina Zundel, Tasha McKenzie, Michaela Lindemann, Jakob Studer, Taylor Studer, Dawson Studer, Jacey Hanssen, Jacob Hanssen, Asher Venezia, Hunter Heggland, Chase Heggland, Tyrus Studer, Haiden Studer, Lucy Marie Heavlin, Beckett Heavlin, Phoebe Rose Studson, Gracie Wartman, Judd Wartman and Althea Wartman. She has one great-great granddaughter Journi Lindemann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, two sons, Robert and Douglas, a sister Audra Johnson, three brothers Kenneth "Babe" Long, Mark Long and Clarion Long and her parents Calvin and Pearl Long. Memorials may be directed to Ascera Hospice or Life Quest.
