Clarence Ike Elwood Kewley, age 82, of rural Hartford, SD died Friday December 21, 2007 at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday at Will Funeral Chapel with burial at a later date at Greenhill Cemetery in Alexandria, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Will Funeral Chapel. Clarence Ike Elwood Kewley, son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Bennett) Kewley, was born January 11, 1925 on the family farm in rural Hanson County. He attended country school in Hanson County. After his schooling he worked on the family farm. He entered the US Army on May 28, 1944 and served in Germany during World War II. Ike was a Prisoner of War in Germany during the war. He was honorably discharged on April 22, 1946 and returned to South Dakota. Ike was united to marriage with Bernice Hanssen on May 11, 1946 in Luverne, MN. The couple made their home in the Alexandria, SD area where they farmed for 29 years. In 1975 they sold the farm and moved to Custer, SD. In October 1986 the couple moved to Sioux Falls for 2 years then to Alexandria and finally made their home in rural Hartford, SD. Ike was a life time member of the DAV and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and drinking coffee with family and friends. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Bernice Kewley, Hartford, SD; five children, Terry Kewley and his wife, Marilyn, Hartford, SD, Linda Dubbelde and her husband, John, Salome, AZ, Glenda Peterson and her husband, Dusty, Alliance, NE, Bonnie Bauerle and her husband, Jerry, Sioux Falls, SD, Cindy Leach and her husband, Wes, Rapid City, SD; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Harold Kewley, Vallejo, CA; five sisters, Bernita Tammen, Emery, SD, Fern Degan, Mitchell, SD, Lillian Blankenship, Alexandria, SD, Vita Champion, Idaho, Fauna Kappenman and her husband, Randy, Mitchell, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; seven sisters; and 1 great grandchild.
