Clarence Buck, age 90, of Mitchell, SD died Friday, May 7, 2021 under hospice care at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at the First Reformed Church in Mitchell, SD with burial at Mizpah Cemetery in Plankinton, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday May 10, 2021 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Clarence Buck, son of John and Vera (Howard) Buck, was born September 20, 1930 on a farm in rural Charles Mix County, SD. He grew up and attended country school later graduating from Armour High School. He entered the US Air Force on July 14, 1950 and served in the Air Police Squadron. He was honorably discharged on October 27, 1953.
Clarence was united in marriage with Geraldine DeVelder on July 13, 1954. The couple lived in Mitchell, where Clarence was employed at Western Chevy. In January of 1963 the couple moved to Corsica and purchased the Corsica Hatchery. The couple continued to operate the Corsica Hatchery for 30+ years. After selling the hatchery, Clarence was employed at Noteboom Implement in Corsica. In 2014 they made their home in Mitchell, SD.
He was a member of First Reformed Church in Mitchell and a former member of Grandview Reformed Church in Armour and Grace Reformed Church in Corsica. Clarence was also a member of the American Legion in Corsica and Corsica Volunteer Fire Department.
Clarence enjoyed fishing, hunting and scroll working. He was a very talented wood worker making wooden signs and Cuckoo Clocks for his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Geraldine Buck, Mitchell, SD; his children, Mike (Lynn) Buck, Scotland, SD, Jim (Deb) Buck, Mitchell, SD, Carol (Percy) Dykshorn, New Holland, SD, Dave (Esther) Buck, Mitchell, SD, Brenda (Mark) Gortmaker, Rapid City, SD; 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; a sister, Edith (Jim) Atkins, Willow Lake, SD; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Chris Dykshorn and Rachel Gortmaker; two brothers, Harold and Leonard and a daughter-in-law, Gail Buck.
