Clare Ballord, age 96, of Mitchell, died February 8, 2005 at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. A memorial service will be held at a later date under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. He was born June 21, 1908 in Sheffield, Illinois to Burton and Lillis (Lee) Ballord. He moved to South Dakota as an infant with his parents. He spent the rest of his life in Sanborn County where he farmed from 1922 until he retired and sold the farm in 1990. Clare is survived by two children Betty (Milo) Houlihan, Hastings, Minnesota and Gayle (Cecil) Bashara, Goosecreek, South Carolina; three stepchildren, Ray (Pat) Warren, Gilbert, Arizona; Lila (Boyce) Coleman, Las Vegas, Nevada; and Lela Koppelman, Ontario, California; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren and one brother, Bud Ballord, Lake Havasu, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Beryl, a son, Doyle, second wife, Myrtle, and a sister, Bernyce Clark.
