Catena "Cate" Piti, age 93, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, November 7, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Cate Piti, daughter of Biaggio and Carmella (LoPresti) Gugliuzzo, was born May 31, 1923 in New York City, NY. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and Garnerville, NY and graduated from Haverstraw High School, Haverstraw, NY. Cate then attended the school of nursing at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, NJ.
Cate was united in marriage with Theodore "Ted" Piti on April 28, 1946 in Haverstraw, NY. The couple lived in Garnerville, NY where Cate was employed as a nurse for 35 years. In 1978, the couple retired and moved to Mitchell, SD to be near their children. While in Mitchell, Cate was employed as a nurse for one year at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and then volunteered with Avera Queen of Peace Hospice.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and active in Catholic Daughters. Cate was also a member the Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary, where she has served as a state commander and a Lioness in the Lions Club.
Grateful for having her life are her two children, Sandra (Denis) Lepkowski, Sioux Falls, SD and Lisa Zeilinger, Bozeman, MT; six grandchildren, Beth (Jamey) Roush, Harrisburg, SD, Bill (Chris) Lepkowski, St. Cloud, MN, Ted Lepkowski, Aberdeen, SD, Jeffrey (Krista) Lepkowski, Chamberlain, SD, Matthew (Mandy) Zeilinger, Steamwood, IL, Micah (Becky) Zeilinger, Milwaukee, WI; three great grandchildren, Maverick and Stratton Roush, Harrisburg, SD and Bastian Zeilinger, Streamwood, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Piti on September 14, 2005; her parents; a granddaughter, Jessica Lepkowski; a brother and a sister.
