Carrie Ella Brown, age 83, of Mitchell, SD died Friday, June 1, 2007 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM at Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Carrie Ella Brown, daughter of Herbert and Nina (Ludwig) Butts was born October 31, 1923 in Mitchell, SD. Carrie was raised by her grandparents Charles O. Butts and Carrie Joy Butts. She graduated from Letcher High School on May 22, 1941 and then from Dakota Wesleyan University on May 25, 1943. Carrie taught at Rovena School for two years. She was united in marriage with Merle Brown on June 25, 1946 in Mitchell, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell, where Carrie was a bookkeeper at Mitchell Produce for 20 years. Carrie was a member of the Congregational Church and the James Valley Community Center. She enjoyed bowling, the New York Yankees, basketball and baseball. Carrie loved spending time with her family. Grateful for having shared her life are her sister, Virginia Skelly, Mitchell, SD; two brothers, Charles Butts, Mitchell, SD and Robert Butts, Fedora, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle on May 16, 1985; her parents; two sisters, Bonnie Karmylo and Lola Acklerking; two brothers, Herbert and Roger Butts; 1 stepson and 1 stepdaughter.
