Carole Ann (Bolier) Wirt, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, October 23, 2022 at her home in Mitchell SD with her daughters, Linda and Julie, present and under hospice care. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Will Funeral Chapel; burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM with a 6:00 PM time of sharing on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Will Funeral Chapel.
Carole Ann (Bolier) Wirt was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on February 1, 1931 to Arthur N. and Hilda L. (Goettl) Bolier. Carole grew up in Robbinsdale, Minnesota and graduated in the Robbinsdale High School class of 1949. She was always fond of her classmates and attended nearly every class reunion. Carole attended the University of Minnesota where she studied history and remained a lifelong enthusiast of history and the liberal arts.
Carole married Walter F. Lehmann in 1952 and to this union were born two children, Linda and Julie. In 1958 Carole married Ernst Wirt (f/n/a Lothar Kowski) "Lou" and to this union were born Heidi and Hans. In 1968 Carole and Ernst relocated to Mitchell.
Carole loved playing the piano, enjoyed reading, and for many years was very fond of getting together with her card playing friends and she was an expert cribbage player. Everyone enjoyed her quick-witted sense of humor and clever poems and "ditties". Carole and Ernst travelled extensively in Europe visiting many countries particularly Norway, Germany, Italy and Poland.
Carole was a good friend to many, always kind and lived her values respecting the dignity of all people. She served as a volunteer for local charities and civil causes including Meals on Wheels, the Shriners, the Middle Border Museum (Dakota Discovery), for various church activities and she worked as an election poll worker.
Carole was predeceased by her husband, Ernst (1995), close friend of 15 years, Dale L. Brown (2013) both of Mitchell, her parents Arthur and Hilda Bolier, brother Earl ("Rollie") Bolier (Helen) and sister Jeanne Hendrickson (Harry) all of Minneapolis, MN.
She is survived by her children Linda Lehmann-Taylor (Marshall Taylor) of Manchester, CT, Julie Koth (Tom) of Deadwood, SD, Heidi Julik (Tony) of Forest Lake, MN and Hans Wirt (Teika Peters) of Deltona, FL, her eight adoring grandchildren, Hana Donnelly (Steve), Alexis Brown, Danielle Baethge (Chandler) of Manchester, CT, Alexandra Geyerman Ellis (Joel) of Deadwood, SD, Dustin Wirt, Matthew Wirt, Logan Wirt and Liam Wirt of Deltona, FL, and seven great-grandchildren, Conor and Evelyn Donnelly, Violet Carole and Viviana Baethge, Brooks and Ari Ellis, and Oliver Wirt. She also leaves many special nephews and nieces in the Minneapolis area.
The family thanks Dr. Olegario and Avera @ Home Hospice, and the med aides at Countryside Living who so graciously assisted Carole's family in her last days.
Memorials may be made to the Mitchell Safehouse or Food Pantry.
