Carol Joan Kearney McCarty was born December 25, 1931 in Redfield, SD. She was the 5th of 8 children born to Earle and Lena (Letcher) Kearney. The family lived in Frankfort, SD. Carol lived there from her birth to her graduation from high school. She later moved to Danville, IL to live with her brother Ray and his family in 1949. She met Lester McCarty in Danville and they were wed on June 10, 1950. They moved to South Dakota in 1952 and lived in Mitchell until her death. She is survived by her two sons: David (Patty) McCarty of Raleigh, NC and Dean McCarty of Golden Valley, MN; 5 grandchildren: Kelly, Chris, Laura, Tim, and Colin; 2 brothers: Don (Maxine) Kearney of San Diego, CA and Gene (Eileen) Kearney of Redfield, SD; and 2 sisters: Karen (Darold) Nissel of Lamberton, MN and Mary Lou Smith of St. Paul, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, Les McCarty, a son, Patrick McCarty, and 3 brothers, Lyle, Ray, and Vergil Kearney. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Carol's name.
