Carol Kahler, 76, of Alexandria SD passed away peacefully Saturday May 11, 2024 at her residence. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Friday May 17, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday May 16, 2024 with a 6:30 prayer service followed by a rosary at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Burial will be in Servicemen's Cemetery in Mitchell.

Carol was born on January 29, 1948 in St. Louis, MO to Marvin and Leota Lewis. She was the 6th of 12 children to join the family.

In 1966 she met the love of her life, Joseph Alvin Kahler while he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. On January 9, 1967 Carol and Joe were married and moved for a short time to Germany until Joe was sent to Vietnam. When he received his orders, Carol moved back to the States and resided with Joe's parents in Herrick, SD. After Joe's discharge from the service in 1969 they made their home in Burke, SD.

In 1974 Amy joined the family and they resided there until 1977 when the family moved to St. Louis and Daniel joined the family in 1978. In 1979 the family moved back to Burke and Dana joined the family in 1980.

In 1984 the family moved to Mitchell where Carol became a student at Dakota Wesleyan, graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1987. Carol used her degree to become a counselor at the halfway house in Mitchell; she later became an employee of the Davison County Sheriff's Office as a jailer, where she would remain until her retirement in 2010.

In Carol's free time you could find her crocheting, watching her grandsons in the many sports they played, at the mud races or dirt tracks in the summer, or at Ella's dance recitals. No matter where it was the kids always knew grandma Carol was there.

In 2018 Carol met her current companion, Roger Lammey, whose company and companionship she enjoyed until her death.

Carol is survived by her children; Amy (Gary) Haag, Fulton, SD, Daniel Kahler, who resided at home with Carol, Dana (Chris) Tuschen, Farmer, SD, grandchildren; Brittany Rains, Mitchell, SD, Christian Haag, Alexandria, SD, Tanner Haag, Fulton, SD, Toby Haag, Sioux Falls, SD, Dallas Haag, Fulton, SD, Ella Tuschen, Farmer, SD, Alex Tuschen, Farmer, SD, Ben Tuschen, Farmer, SD, brothers; Gary (Lynn) Lewis, Paul (Margaret) Lewis, Jerry Lewis, sisters; Arlene (Ronald) Vaughn, Dorothy Vaughn, Angie (Phillip) Lee, brother in law; Robert Smith, sister in law; Barb (Don) Peterson, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and all of her adopted grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by Joe in 2005, twin grandchildren, Brandee and Randall in 1999, her parents, Marvin and Leota, Joe's parents, Ted and Ella, brothers, Edward and Mike, sisters Lois Eaton and Alberta Smith, brothers in law Duane Kahler and Larry Vaughn, sisters in law, Janice (Leroy) Smith and Baby Faye.
