Carol Johnson, age 60, of Mitchell, SD (Formerly of Mt. Vernon, SD) died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Mitchell, SD with burial at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday April 4, 2014 at Resurrection Lutheran Church with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 PM. Carol Joyce Kreth, daughter of LuVern and Laverna (Geidel) Kreth, was born October 26, 1953 at the Parkston Hospital, Parkston, SD. She attended school at Mt. Vernon High School and Mitchell Technical Institue. Carol was united in marriage with Kevin Johnson on September 20, 1975 in Dimock, SD. Carol worked for social services in the past, and most recently was a substitute teacher at Mt. Vernon School. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon where she served as organist and pianist. In 2011, Carol was an Honorary Co-Chair for the Mitchell Heart and Sole Cancer Walk and was also inducted into the Mount Vernon Hero's Courtyard. Carol enjoyed scrapbooking, quilting, gardening, watching sports and spoiling her children and grandchildren. Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Aaron (Ashlee) Johnson, Ashley (Chase) Walder, and Allison Johnson, all of Sioux Falls, SD; two sisters, Jerilyn (Floyd) Muntefering, Parkston, SD, Joyce (Robin) Ackman, Mitchell, SD; a brother, Daryl Kreth, Mt. Vernon, SD; and her father, Luvern Kreth, Mt. Vernon, SD; and three grandchildren, Ailee and Aspyn Johnson and Baby Walder, Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her mother, Laverna Kreth. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mitchell Heart and Sole Cancer Walk.
