Carol Grace Brooks, age 89, of Plankinton, SD died Monday, March, 9, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 13, 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Plankinton, SD with burial at 2:30 PM Friday at the Masonic Cemetery in Philip, SD. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday, March 12, 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Plankinton, SD. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Carol was one of 4 daughters and 2 brothers, born to Harry and Hattie Page from O'Neill, Nebraska. She had three sisters, Ruth, Alice and Arlene (deceased.) Two brothers, David and Daniel (deceased.) She graduated from O'Neill public school in 1942 in the top 10% of her class. After graduation, she went to Black Hills Teachers College and got her teaching degree. She started teaching in 1944 until 1965. In her later years, she became a caregiver in a nursing home. After that she helped give care to others until the late 70's. She met her husband, Kenneth Brooks, at a boxed dinner auction. Kenneth bought Carol's boxed dinner and they were able to share the dinner together. They got married September 12, 1960. They had a son, Robert Brooks, currently residing in Plankinton, SDand a daughter, Varla Kryger, currently residing in Sioux Falls, SD. She leaves behind fifteen grandchildren. She loved gardening, music, fishing, cooking, and was very avid in the church community. She gave to more charities that could be named. She woke up and went to bed thinking about other people, and that is what made her happy, helping others.
