Bruce DeJong, age 57 of Mitchell, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 13 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial in Germantown Cemetery in Chancellor, SD. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM Bruce was born on August 2, 1954 to Duane and Sana (VanZittern) DeJong at the Methodist Hospital, Mitchell. He grew up and lived outside Carthage, SD on the family farm. He graduated from Carthage High in 1972. After his graduation he attended Mitchell VoTech for Architectural Drafting and Drawing. On April 5, 1976 he married the love of his life, Colleen Tegels in Mitchell, SD. They knew each other for one week! This is what you call TRUE LOVE! He worked for Dakota Cheese, UBC, many, many years for Puetz Construction and also for Mueller Lumber. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. After serving on all the chairs he attained his Fellow Degree in September of 2008. He did volunteer work for the Moose Lodge and also for the Senior Center. He got enjoyment out of wood working, hunting, fishing, and darts. His main love was the love that he had for his family. His grandkids meant the world to him. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Colleen, Mitchell; Three children: Bruce (BJ) wife Jill DeJong, Mitchell; Kelly wife Tabitha DeJong, Bellevue, NE; Grace Hoek husband Justin, Mitchell. Six grandchildren: Taylor, Kira DeJong, Mitchell: Michala, Tyler DeJong, Bellevue, NE; Jazzmyn , Vyncent Hoek, Mitchell. His Mother Sana, Michell. One brother; Doug (SonCha) DeJong, West Valley, UT. One nephew David (Patsie) DeJong, Taylorsville, UT; and a niece Laura Cooper (Chris), Washington, DC. He is preceded in death by his father, a brother Tom, his Maternal and Paternal Grandparents and his In-laws.
