Bregitta Van Dam, age 82, of Mitchell died Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, February 6, 2012 at First Reformed Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 6:00 PM. Burial will be in Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery. Bregitta Effie Van Dam, daughter of Nick and Dorothy (Dykstra) Feenstra, was born November 7, 1929 on the family farm in Douglas County, SD. She attended country school in Douglas County. After her schooling, Bregitta worked with her father on the family farm near New Holland, SD. She was united in marriage with Tennyson Van Dam on January 5, 1954 in New Holland, SD. The couple lived in Lawton, OK where Tenny was stationed at Ft. Sill. After his honorable discharge, the couple farmed near Platte, SD. In 1959 the couple made their home in Mitchell. Later Bregitta was employed as a custodian at Eugene Field Elementary from September of 1975 to August of 1985. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Mitchell, SD and a former member of the Christian Reformed Church in New Holland. Bregitta enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening, fishing, walking and garage sales. She also enjoyed volunteering at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Barb (Dave) Christenson, Mitchell, SD, Marvin (Bonnie) Van Dam, Norwalk, IA, Maxine (Chuck) Risty, Brandon, SD, Jerry (Mary) Van Dam, Hartford, IA; 12 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Rose) Feenstra, Cresco, IA; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Tenny on March 7, 1986; her parents; and a brother, John Feenstra.
