Obituary


Bonnie Greene age 66, of Mt. Vernon, SD, died Tuesday June 29, 2010 at her home under hospice care. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at Salem Lutheran Church with burial at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Bonnie Buehler Greene was born to Emil Buehler and Ella Shrank Buehler at the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell on April 24, 1944. She attended the Stickney Elementary School until the 6th grade. The following year the family moved to Sunnyside, WA, where spent her 7th grade school year, and then they returned to Stickney. Bonnie graduated from Stickney High School as salutatorian of her class in 1962.

After a semester at USD, she moved to Mitchell, where she worked as a secretary at both the Educator Supply Company and Geyermans.

In 1970 Bonnie married Jim Greene of Mount Vernon. They made their home on the family farm where they raised two daughters, Wendy and Vicki. In 1985 she went back to work on miscellaneous jobs in the Mount Vernon/Mitchell area. In 1987 she was hired by Toshiba where she worked for the next 22 years, retiring in November 2008.

Bonnie was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She was not only a devoted farm wife, but she was also a devoted mother and grandmother. A huge part of her life was being actively involved in her families lives, from horse shows to school sports to summer activities. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, attending musicals and ice skating events, and traveling.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters Wendy (Jim) Smith and Vicki (Larry) Schommer, granddaughter Karen Smith and grandsons Nate and Jake Schommer,
and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim on February 26, 2004, her parents, and one sister Arlue Titze on October 5, 2008.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to a scholarship fund in Bonnies name or Salem Lutheran Church.
