Obituary

Betty Peer, 71, of Artesian died January 11, 2005 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Artesian. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a 6 :00 PM prayer service. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Betty was born November 20, 1933 in Philip, SD to Lawrence and Loretta (Effling) Cote. She grew up in Afton Township where she attended grade school. She graduated from Artesian High School in 1953. Betty married Warren Peer at St. Charles Catholic Church in Artesian on February 1, 1955. Throughout her life, she worked at Cabaret Bar and Lounge, the Longbranch Bar, Farmers Union Oil Co, in Fedora, and the Pheasant Enterprise at Artesian. She was dedicated to helping with the family farm. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, St. Charles Altar Society, the Community Improvement Association and served as secretary of the Brisbine Cemetery for several years. Betty enjoyed gardening and flowers and playing cards. Family get togethers wouldnt be the same without playing cards. She was a courageous fighter for many years with her health. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Warren; her children, Marilyn (Paul) Hodges of Redfield, Cindy (Larry) Lewis, Fedora, Liz Hoffman, Artesian and Chuck (Wendi) Peer, Artesian; eleven grandchildren: Chris (Debra) Hodges, Mitchell, Theresa Hodges, Redfield, Kelly Hodges, Brookings, Shelby Hodges, Redfield, Jenny (Ryan) Walter, Sioux Falls, Mindy, Mandy and Corey Lewis, Fedora, Jason Hoffman, Carthage, Wade Hoffman, Artesian, Shilo Peer, Artesian; two great grandchildren, Emily Hodges and Corbin Schwartz. She is also survived by three sisters, Eva Schmit, Artesian, Inez Nelson, Mitchell, Jean Nelson, Texas, one brother, Don Cote, Artesian and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Rena Barta, a brother, Dean, and grandchildren, Ryley Peer, and Aaron, Bryan and James Hodges.
