Obituary

Bernadine Somers, age 88, of Mitchell, SD died Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 17, 2013 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Bernadine Mussman, daughter of Frederick and Cecilia Mussman, was born November 9, 1924 in Clinton, IA. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1944 where she worked as a waitress and cook. Then she moved to Lake Andes, SD where she owned and operated her own café. Bernadine later made her home in Chamberlain, SD where she operated her own café. She was united in marriage with Edward Finegan on November 16, 1955. He passed away on December 10, 1972. Bernadine later married Leland Somers December 3, 1973. Bernadine worked at several restaurants and was also a volunteer for the senior citizens meal program at Meadowlawn Plaza in Mitchell, SD. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Grateful for having shared her life are her three daughters, Sheila (Chris) Woster, Spring Creek, NV, Patricia (Charles) Thelen, Spring Creek, NV, Julianne (David) Lachnit, Mitchell, SD; a son-in-law, Keith Walton, Armour, SD; two step sons, Jack Finegan, Wickenburg, AZ, Dick (Jan) Somers, Broomfield, CA; a step daughter, Shirley Andrews, Green Bay, WI; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands; a son, James Finegan; two daughters, Bernadine Walton and Marianne Schukncht; two grandchildren, Melissa Lachnit and Miranda Busack; eight brothers; and three sisters.
