Barry Grabenstein Sr., age 72, of Whitewright, TX formerly of Letcher, SD passed away at Hunt Regional Healthcare in Greenville, TX on Friday, November 25, 2016. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Letcher Community Center with burial at Westlawn Cemetery in Letcher.

Barry Dean Grabenstein, son of Albert and Elvira (Pendelton) Grabenstein, was born June 19, 1944 in Mitchell, SD. He lived in the Letcher, SD until he enlisted in the US Navy in 1962.

To his loved ones, Barry was better known at "Red", with his red hair and personality to match. He was an adventurous man who enjoyed time with his family, traveling and tinkering with any machine he could get his hands on. In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. Barry dedicated 30 years of his life serving his country, ultimately retiring as a Master Chief Naval Counselor in 1992.

Barry was a proud father of his children and loved spending time with his extended family.

He is survived by his children, Jerry, Sherry, John, Barry Jr., Terra, Bobby and Jennifer; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three sisters, Deanna Sieler, Karda Shoults and Janele Tolley; loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Doyle and Jody.
