Arnold M. George, age 87, of Mitchell, SD died Monday, May 15, 2017 at Firesteel Healthcare Community under hospice care. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, May 18, 2017 at First Reformed Church in Mitchell, SD with burial at Fairview Cemetery in White, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Arnold M. George, son of Roy and Rose (Wetch) George, was born January 6, 1930 in Solen, ND. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Solen, ND. After his schooling he was employed at Red Owl in Mandan, ND. He then moved to Chicago, IL where he worked in a car factory and later to California to spray for termites. Arnold then moved to Sioux Falls and was employed at Gustafson Construction and then to Solen, ND and was a heavy equipment operator for Sioux County. The couple moved to Bismarck, ND where Arnold was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Bismarck. He retired at the age of 63 and in 2004 moved to Mitchell, SD, then Littleton CO, then Mt. Vernon, SD and finally returning to Mitchell.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and time spent with his grandchildren.

Arnold was united in marriage with Karen Fish on November 24, 1972 in Selby, SD.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Karen George, Mitchell, SD; two sons, Todd (Lisa Clauser) Nordtvedt, Littleton, CO, Brian (Shelly) Nordtvedt, Harrisburg, SD; two daughters, Pam George and Cheryl George; four grandchildren, Kaitlin Backmeier, Matthew Nordtvedt, Melissa (Erik Matlock) Tuttle and Marc Tuttle; a great grandchild, Aidyn Matlock; a sister, Fern Froelick, Solen, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Frank George, Rudy (Helen) George, Jim (Beatrice) George, Richard George, Mike George and Ray George, Al George;  a sister, Evelyn; two sisters-in-law, Neta Anderson, and Dorothy Fish; a brother-in-law, Ken Fish.
