Arlene Barbara Haiar, age 76, Mitchell, died August 11, 2006 at her home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday August 15, 2006, at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Arlene was born November 29, 1929, in Epiphany, SD to Edward and Elizabeth (Herll) Young. She graduated from Burbank High School and following graduation went to work for Cotton Jewelry in Mitchell. She married Gerald Haiar October 11, 1950 in Epiphany. After farming near Epiphany for 4 years, they moved to Mitchell in 1955. She was a homemaker who dedicated her life to providing a loving and secure home and raising their four children. In the early 70s, she worked part time at Mogck Rest Home where she provided compassionate care for the residents. She worked at various other retail businesses until she and Gerald assumed management of the Super 8 Motel in the late 1980s. After Geralds death in 1993, she continued to work at the Super 8 and then at the Thunderbird Lodge where she was employed at the time of her death. She especially enjoyed meeting the motel patrons while she worked and always provided a welcome smile to visitors. She lived for the travel associated with the many life events of her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church where she enjoyed serving in a variety of parish functions. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children; Jackie Millslagle and husband Duane of Duluth, MN, Judy Craig Hurd and husband Bill of Mitchell, SD, Greg Haiar and wife Mary of Aberdeen, SD and Roger Haiar and wife Shelley of Highland Village, TX; One sister Elaine Eich of Mitchell; two brothers in law Lawrence Haiar and wife LaVonne of Mitchell, SD and Jerome Haiar and wife Stella of Mitchell, SD; three sisters in law Adelaide Krebsbach of Austin, MN, Mildred Sievers of Austin, MN and Sister Hermine Haiar of Milwaukee, WI; thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald in 1993, infant son Gerard, infant grandson Jason and brother Cy Young.
