Alvin L. Wermers age 85, of Mitchell died Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket, SD. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Alvin Lawrence Wermers was born on July 7, 1932 on the family farm west of Ethan, SD to Anthony and Margaret (Muntefering) Wermers.

Alvin attended Notre Dame School and graduated from Letcher High School.

He married Janette Metzger on November 15, 1952 in Mitchell, SD. He was employed with Metz Baking Company for 34 years until his retirement in 1993.

Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating with family and friends.

Blessed to have shared his life are his wife Janette; daughter Cindee (Richard) Westendorf; grandchildren Richard Jr. (Nichol) Westendorf, Mike Westendorf, Mat (Dava) Wermers and Tracie Wermers; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Bob Wermers and Don (Verla) Wermers; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Randy Wermers; grandson Christopher Wermers; sisters Delores (Wermers) Hanson, Loretta (Wermers) Cain; brothers Alfred Wermers and Norbert Wermers.

So many memories of his laughter, smiles and joking around will always remain in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
