Alvin Bialas, age 90 of Sioux Falls, formerly of Mitchell, died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.  Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 22 at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell with burial at Graceland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 PM Friday at Will Funeral Chapel with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Alvin Albert Bialas was born April 16, 1918 to Ernest and Henriette (Reichert) Bialas in Dimock, SD.  He grew up on a farm by Dimock, completed 8 years of education and helped his father farm.

He married Betty Andachter on October 4, 1946 at Delmont.  The couple lived west of Dimock for one year and then purchased a farm six miles east of Delmont near the golf course.  They later moved to Betty's parents until 1954 and then bought a farm west of Ethan. They lived there until 1969 when they moved to Mitchell.  Alvin was a custodian at Mitchell VoTech for 20 plus years.  He retired in 1990.  He enjoyed working the land and had a large garden for many years. He loved playing with the grandkids and would always be there to hold and rock them.  He was a member of the First Luther Church.

Alvin is survived by a son Dave Bialas (Elaine), Overland Park, KS; daughters: Mariette Lee and Kandis Miller (Allen),  Sioux Falls, SD; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother John Bialas (Anna) Sioux Falls, SD.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a sister Rose Moran.
