Allen James Westra, age 71, of Platte, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 19, 1953, in Platte, South Dakota.

Allen is survived by his three children, Vince (wife Nijla), Faye, and Tara, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Malachi, Keegan, Olivia. He is also survived by his mother, Donna Westra, and his brother, Bob Westra, who reside in Platte. He is preceded in death by his daughter Nancy and father James (Vince) Westra.

A man of many talents, Allen had a varied career, working as a banker, business owner, and manufacturing worker. Throughout his life, he found great joy in the simple pleasures—fishing, hunting, and most of all, spending time with those he loved. His friends and family will remember him for his quick wit, fondness of telling jokes, and always ready for a good time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to Faye Westra at 5500 W 44th Street Apt 6 Sioux Falls, SD 57106.

In keeping with his wishes, Allen donated his body to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. A celebration of life will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM on December 16, 2024, at the American Legion 544 Main St, Platte, SD 57369 with coffee and cookies provided. All who knew him are welcome to attend and share in remembering his life.

Allen will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
