Alice Blackman, 98, of Mitchell, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Firesteel Health Care Center. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at New Home Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell, SD. Reverend Max Miller will be officiating. Will Funeral Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements. Alice was born to November 25, 1914 to Charles and Nana (Peterson) Wallin. She graduated from Salem High School and then began working at the County Agents office through the Triple A program. She married Newton Blackman of Mitchell on December 15, 1938 during their marriage they had one son, Charles Blackman. The couple then moved to Whittier, California in September of 1939 where she worked for L.B. Merrick Nurseries until 1945. The couple moved back Ethan, SD in 1951. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Culhanes Dairy until it closed. Grateful for having shared Alice's life is her son, Charles (Sandra) Blackman, of Minnetonka, MN and a niece Cheryl (Jerome) Carpentier of Parkston, SD. Alice is preceded into death by her husband in 1995, her parents, and her brother Clifford.
