Alberta Earl, age 71, of Mt. Vernon, died June 15, at the Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, June 20, at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 8:00 PM. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Alberta Juul Earl was born to Albert and Julia (Olson)Ruhberg on a farm in Davison County on October 29, 1934. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended grade school in Bell, Mayhew, Loomis and Victor country schools and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1953. Alberta married Gary Earl Sr. at Victor Lutheran Church, rural Mt. Vernon, on Sept. 4, 1954. She and her husband were janitors and bus drivers and lived in the Hopper School for nine years. She worked at Cemeteries Aglow (now Peace Light) when the business started. She also clerked auction sales for several years with her husbands business. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, where she served on several committees and was past chairman of the administrative council. She was also past president of the Mt. Vernon Alumni Association and helped take care of the Associations files for thirty years. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Julie Raye of Mt. Vernon, son, Ron and wife, Lori, rural Plankinton, four grandchildren: Gary, Rubin and Orric Earl, and Jennalee Juul Deinert, and future granddaughter-in-law, Amanda Hoffman, all of Mt. Vernon; mother-in-law, Thelma Earl, of Woonsocket, sister, Earlyne and husband, Roger Hill of Mt. Vernon, and two sisters-in-law, Janice, and husband, Robert Kerwin, and Jeanne, and husband, Dr. Jack Berry, all of Mitchell; one step-brother, Gary Smith and wife, Peggy, Mondamin, IA; three step-sisters Karen and husband, James Hanson, Winner, Gail and husband Robert Mueller and Deloris Spry, of Mitchell; a nephew, Terry, nieces Leah and Angie and her husband, Rance, a nephew Kris and his wife, Connie and a great nephew, Kaleb. She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law, Orville Earl, a nephew, her step-mother, Nyna Ruhberg and a step-brother, Kenny Smith.
