Alberta (Krantz) Baker, 99, of Mitchell, died Monday, May 3, 2010 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD with a 2:30 PM burial at the Elk Point Cemetery, Elk Point, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Alberta, daughter of James and Emma Stultz, was born in Elk Point, SD on March 14, 1911. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, IA. Alberta was united in marriage with Nick Krantz on December 10, 1929 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard, SD. The couple lived and farmed in and around Howard until they moved to Mitchell in 1959. The couple purchased the Bendix Launderette which they owned and operated until their retirement. They then moved to Sioux City, IA, where they lived until Nick died in August of 1979.
Alberta married Glenn Stewart. The couple made their home in Ottumwa, IA until Glenns death. Alberta later married Cecil Baker and the couple continued to make their home in Ottumwa, IA. She moved back to Mitchell and in 2005 became a resident of Firesteel Healthcare Center. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Gary Krantz and wife Karen, Mitchell, SD; four grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; two stepsons, Virgil Stewart and wife Alice and Arnold Stewart and wife Stephanie, both of Ottumwa, IA; and several step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a daughter, Patty Siemering; two brothers, John Stultz and wife, Alice, Jim Zietler and wife, Anita; a sister, Phyllis Powell and husband, Harold; a brother in law, Vic Krantz and wife, Lorene; four sisters-in-laws, Sophie Claussen and husband, George, Agnes Huls and husband, Maurice, Tillie Esser and husband, Art, Teresa Esser and husband, Jim.
