Obituary

Albert N. Aulner, age 89, of Mitchell died May 15, 2004. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at 1:30 PM at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria. Visitation will be 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service followed by a rosary beginning at 7:00 PM Monday. Albert N. Aulner, son of Albert Peter and Barbara (Klink) Aulner, was born in rural Alexandria, SD on September 26, 1914. He attended school at Notre Dame Catholic School in Mitchell, then Sioux Falls, back to Mitchell, and then country school in Alexandria, SD. Albert was united in marriage with Frieda, Schulz on April 28, 1943 in Alexandria, SD. The couple farmed east of Alexandria. He retired in 1982 and they moved into Alexandria. Albert was later united in marriage with Wilma Oehlerking on March 29, 1989 in Mitchell, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell, SD. He was a resident of Firesteel Healthcare Center for three weeks. Albert was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell and a former member of St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria. He served on the elevator board and the Alexandria School Board. Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Mitchell, SD; nine children, Leonard Aulner, Houston, TX, Robert Aulner, New Milford, IL, Ronald Aulner and wife, Kate, Alexandria, SD; Shirley Northrup and her husband, Harry, Letcher, SD, Mary Jo McGraw and her husband, Terry, Castle Rock, CO, Richard Vermeulen and his wife, Myrna, Sioux Falls, SD, Ronald Vermeulen and his wife, Lynette, Mitchell, SD, Gary Vermeulen and his wife, Maxine, Casper, WY, Dee Ann Vermeulen, Rapid City, SD; numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Freida Aulner on May 1, 1985; his parents; five brothers and two sisters.
