Obituary

Agatha Johnson, age 94, of Mitchell, SD died Saturday March 21, 2009 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Resurrection Lutheran Church with burial at 2:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Delmont, SD. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Agatha Johnson, daughter of Fred and Ida (Welk) Fode, was born March 13, 1915 at Tripp, SD. She attended Zion Lutheran School and then Delmont High School.

She was united in marriage with Charles L. Johnson on March 14, 1934 in Mitchell, SD. The couple lived in Avon, SD and Dante, SD. In 1942, they moved to Kawanee, IL where Agatha was employed as a sewing teacher for five years at the Singer Sewing Center. In 1952 the couple moved to Des Moines, IA where they had a small business that did precision tool grinding sold Schwinn Bicycles and had a lock smith corner. In 1962, she moved to Mitchell, SD and was employed at JC Pennys for 17 years and also did JC Pennys alterations for another 25 years.

Agatha was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and the Mary Circle. She was also a member of the Mitchell Senior Citizen and volunteered for many years.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Agatha was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on October 30, 1960; a son, Marvin on January 28, 1948; her parents; and a sister, Hilda Williams.
