Adrian A. Degen, age 81 of Alexandria, SD died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria, SD with burial at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Adrian Adam Degen, son of John and Elizabeth (Grohs) Degen, was born January 17, 1933 in Parkston, SD. He entered the US Army in February of 1953 and was honorably discharged in May of 1955. He returned to Alexandria and continued farming. Adrian was united in marriage with Anita Wolf on February 24, 1968 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD. The couple farmed in rural Alexandria from 1968 to the present. He was a member of St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church. Adrian enjoyed farming, raising cattle, reading, ATV's, having coffee with the guys, watching westerns and listening to country music. In his younger years he also enjoyed taking care of horses. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 47 years, Anita Degen, Alexandria, SD; five children, Diane (David) Fessler, Fulton, SD, Thomas (Lori) Degen, Alexandria, SD, Bradley (Melissa) Degen, Sioux Falls, SD, Dean Degen, Alexandria, SD, Nancy Cremer, Pierre, SD; six grandchildren, Amanda (Matt) Klein, Mitchell, SD, Jonathan Fessler of Fulton, SD, Taylor Degen of St. Paul, MN, Taite Degen of Alexandria, SD, Joseph Cremer and Katherine Cremer of Pierre, SD; four sisters, Phyllis Gossel, Mitchell, SD, Donna Myers, Mitchell, SD, LaVonne (Eldon) Johnson, Mitchell, SD, LaVae Dunn, Rapid City, SD; a brother-in-law, Mike (Eleanor) Wolf, Milbank, SD; a sister-in-law, Barb (Ed) Lutz, Garretson, SD; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Derrick Degen; three brothers-in-law; and a niece.
