Obituary

Adolph Wegehaupt, 92, of Parkston, formally of Mitchell, passed away Friday, September 4, 2020 at Avera Borman Manor in Parkston. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell.  Visitation will be an hour prior to the service; burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Adolph Emil Wegehaupt was born February 28, 1928 near Dimock, SD to Adolf and Bertha (Schnell) Wegehaupt. He graduated high school in Mitchell, SD and received his bachelor's degree from Concordia College in Seward, NE. After graduating from Seward, Adolph had teaching/principal assignments in Clover, ID, Freeman, SD and Columbia, SD.

He met his wife, Dolores L. Reinke while at his first teaching assignment in Clover, ID. They were wed August 19, 1955. From this union their four children were born. In 1968 the family relocated to Mitchell, SD where they owned and operated Midwest Christian Supply. They continued this ministry until their retirement.

Adolph's love for music was exceeded only by his love for Christ and family. He was an active charter member of Resurrection Lutheran Church where he sang and directed the church choir for a time. He was also a long-time member of the Mitchell Barbershop Chorus, where he remained an honorary member until the end. His last 'official' performance was the summer of 2014 on Mitchell main street during Corn Palace Week. Adolph continued to serenade his family and staff at the nursing home, up until his last breath. He never forgot his music!

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Lavonne Krcil-Mitchell, SD, Mark (Joni) Wegehaupt-Sioux Falls, SD, Daniel (Valerie) Wegehaupt - Oswego, IL and Diane (Rick) McGonigle - Winona, MN. He greatly cherished his grandchildren: Danielle Krcil, Tara (Malachi) Behrens, Tyler Wegehaupt, Alexandra (Kris) Morris, Evan (Zoe) Wegehaupt, Mikala Krcil and Nathan Wegehaupt, and great grandchildren: Blaze, Brix and Lux Behrens; Aurea and Taige Larson and Marlow Morris. He is also survived by one sister in law, Rose Meier, and many nieces and nephews.

Adolph was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, his parents, his siblings and their spouses: Karl, Martin (Alice), Walter (Carol), Albert (Helen), Erwin (Maxine), Klara, Hilda (Lawrence) Helling, Linda (Leslie) Herrig, five sisters in law, four brothers in law, three nephews and a niece.
