Darold Gene Bridge
June 19, 1934 - March 25, 2013

Biography

Darold Gene Bridge, age 78, of Mitchell, SD died Monday, March 25 at his home of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 29, 2013 at Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Darold Gene Bridge, son of James and Phyllis (Mahnke) Bridge, was born June 19, 1934 in Wagner, SD. He attended school in Wagner and later was employed with area farmers. Darold entered the US Army on February 11, 1956 and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged on February 2, 1958 and returned to Wagner for a short time. Darold continued to serve his country with his service at the SD National Guard for twelve years.

Darold moved to Mitchell in 1958 and began is employment with the South Dakota Department of Transportation. He retired in 1989 after 31 years of service with the DOT. In his retirement, Darold drove truck for Shelly Mack, Ed Metz and Schoenfelder Construction. He suffered a stroke in July of 1998 and in 2000 moved to Meadowlawn Plaza.

In his younger years, Darold enjoyed baseball, playing catch with his father and brother, hunting, farming, basketball, football and racing cars. Recently Darold enjoyed menís fast pitch, serving as a flagman at the race track in Wagner and Lake Andes, and playing cards.

Darold was a member of the Coacher-Goetsch American Legion, where he served as Past Commander. He also served on the SD Highway Department Safety Committee and served as the local union rep for the state union. Darold was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his two daughters, Pam (Mike) Puetz, Mitchell, SD, Julie Bridge, Mitchell, SD; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Ray (Lorraine) Bridge, San Diego, CA, Clifford Bridge, Yankton, SD, Lee (Gail) Bridge, Wagner, SD; two sisters, Ruby Titzell, Fresno, CA, Marj Berry, Louisville, KY; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wayne, Dean and Joe; two sisters, Louise and Bernice; two grandchildren in infancy; and a son-in-law, Bryan Larson.
