Life Legacy

Sherrie Wermers, 56, Mitchell, died Monday, March 4, 2013, under hospice care at her home.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell. Burial follow in Servicemans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Will Funeral Chapel.

Sherrie was born Dec. 6, 1956 to Richard and Margie Gaulke in Mitchell. She grew up in Mitchell and attended Mitchell schools.

Sherrie married Dan Wermers on July 6, 1979, in Parkston. Sherrie and Dan moved to Ohio in 1983 where she worked as a master gardener in a nursery. They eventually moved to the Twin Cities in 1990 and settled and built a home in Monticello in 1996.
Sherrie and Dan moved back to the Mitchell area to be closer to family in 2001.

Sherrie started working for the Mitchell School District in 2001 as a custodian. She held that position for about 11 years.

Sherrie was diagnosed with lung cancer in December. Her smile, laughter, incredible sense of humor and compassionate understanding will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Dan; her son, Derek (Anna), and grandson, Jacob, Mitchell; her daughter, Stephanie, and grandson, Jonathon, Bloomington, Minn.; her father, Richard (Jean) Gaulke, Mitchell; her brothers, Mark (Becky) Gaulke, and Scott Gaulke, both of Mitchell; her sisters, Carrie (Doug) Grosz, Mitchell, and Shellie (Doug) Hansen, Deer Lodge, Mont.; her sisters-in-law, Nancy (Rick) Thury, Jamestown, N.D., and Anna (Brian) Johnsen, Sargent Bluffs, Iowa; and brother-in-law, Doug (Peggy) Wermers, Parkston; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margie Gaulke; her maternal grandparents, Ralph and Margaret Wittstruck; paternal grandparents Gustaf and Laura Gaulke; her uncles, Donn Wittstruck and Duane “Johnny” Wittstruck; and several other aunts and uncle.
